Five Days Hands-on Performance Tuning Workshop
The workshop is intended for all those who are involved in performance tuning (developers and DBAs).
In the past years the most common tuning method used for application and database tuning is the YAPP method which is based on response time analysis. To be able to analyze the module’s response time we need to trace the execution of that module and later on with specialized tools we can prepare a detailed analysis of the performance problems. The attendees of this course get special trace analyzer software which was developed by Joze Senegacnik.
From 14 to 21 days prior course the attendees receive the instructions for trace file preparation for the performance problems they have experienced in the past. They bring the trace files to the course where they are analyzed and discussed during the workshop sessions. The benefit of this method is that they are working on their own problems where they feel comfortable and they know details about their production environment and also data. Together with other attendees they get the knowledge of detailed analysis of response time and possible ways of improving the response time.
The theoretical part of the course contains discussion of technical themes which attendees should know to be able for efficient performance tuning and know the technical background of different performance problems.
The last day of this hands-on tuning course is solely devoted for practical tuning. Each attendee has his own database with an demo application which is performing really badly. The goal is to achieve the maximum possible performance which is measured as the number of performed transactions per second. The winner gets a bottle of the best Slovenian champagne.
This course was many times organized in cooperation with S&T Slovenia and Oracle University Slovenia.
